On a beautiful summer's day, two English tourists were driving through Wales . At Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllantysiliogogoch they stopped for lunch, and one of the tourists asked the waitress, 'Before we order, I wonder if you could settle an argument for us. Can you pronounce where we are - very, very, very slowly?'

Ye, its in Whales. Its a train station.

Its quite funny, I was keen to read about it and googled the word you posted. It came back with nothing so I googled "longest name" and the correct spelling came up.

    here is the pronunciation:

    Image

Some other buggers tried to rename their station to a longer name
    Gorsafawddachaidraigodanheddogleddollonpenrhynareurdraethceredigion
and there is a pace in NZ called:
    Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu
    and in Thailand:
    Krungthepmahanakornamornratanakosinmahintarayutthayamahadilokphopnopparatrajathaniburiromudomrajaniwesmahasatharnamornphimarnavatarnsathitsakkattiyavisanukamprasit

Its a real name? That's crazy!

Wales is such a special place like that. I accidentally drove there once and could immediately tell by the almost total lack of vowels.

It's a town in Wales (and not Whales btw...those are the big fishy thingy mammals in the sea off Hermanus in September and the thingy's the Japs love to kill and everyone else hates them for it), and it is also the longest name of any town in the world. It's usually shortened to Llanfair PG though, because of the complex difficulty in both pronouncing it and spelling it...

(I have a book that I got as a prize some time in Primary School on Amazing Facts and Useless Information, and this is in there...)

Ok...well, my book is quite old now, so when it was published it probably was the longest name. What was the NZ town name before it got changed to that ridiculous unpronounceable bunch of rubbish?
