1983 Price list for the Super Wimpy Grill. Know anyone who likes their meat extra well done? That patty looks like it should have been removed from the grill ten minutes earlier.

I remember a chain called the "Golden Egg" from around then. Am I imagining it?

I vaguely remember a Golden Egg outlet on the way to Durbs like at Harrismith or one of those places we used to stop at in my extreme youth. They were similar to a Wimpy but with yelow/orange decor?

Wierd thing about those menus is 1972 is the year I started school and 1983 the year I finished.

A google search revealed this:

From the Golden Egg, Whistle Stop hatched. The Whistle Stop brand was established with Shell in 1995. A fast food restaurant where breakfast, dinner, midnight snacks and coffee is served to travellers at the Shell Ultra City petrol stations.

Not sure you'd be allowed to call something a "Shanty Salad" now days...and their menu has grown somewhat over the years too, thankfully.

So Golden Egg is the reason I seek out Engen 1-Stops around mealtimes when travelling...can then have Wimpy food...they've got better chips.

Diva, old enough to remember going to the drive-in in my pj's and then there was a chain of roadhouses.....I wanted to call it Chicken Licken but knew that wasn't right so called my older sister and she reckons it was Burger Fair!

The Doll House in JHB used to be like that.... when my dad hung out there.
In my day it was just slow and stoned waiters that look like they'd been trained at a garage.
